KØBENHAVN: A Screening for Palestine: The Wanted 18
Crisis Mirror and the Palestine Solidarity Network at RUC stand against the ongoing Genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and the long-standing and brutal Israeli Settler Colonization of the West Bank. In search of ways to raise awareness on the Palestinian Cause and to empower criticism towards Israel, we invite you to the screening of the animated documentary ‘Wanted 18’, a genuine and funnily-told story of creative resistance and communal solidarity in the small town of Beit Sahour during the groundbreaking years of the First Intifada.
About the Film: “The Wanted 18”, Amer Shomali, Paul Cowan, 75′
What community struggle and yearning for self-determination against the oppressive rule of Imperialism might look like. The citizens of Beit Sahour offered a profound example of such a story of disobedience in the course of the First Intifada and “Wanted 18” delivers it beautifully to the audience, showcasing the power of collective imagination, solidarity, and resilience. A herd of 18 cows proved themselves enough to defy and ‘boycott’ the towns’ Israeli occupying forces to the extent that the latter put out a bounty on them, and this is one among the numerous modes of grassroots resistance that people of Beit Sahour employed for intensifying their fight for freedom against the Occupation. However, defeats and movements’ disorientation are indispensable parts of the struggle, thus of “Wanted 18”, which holds a critical stance on the aftermath of the “Oslo Accords” in 93′ and on a society seemingly distracted from its revolutionary values.
